I am so excited to begin this school year and meet all of my students and their families! I truly enjoy instilling a lifelong love of learning in my students, and guiding them during this pivotal year in their lives! Below is some information to help you get to know me better.
I grew up in rural Alaska, commercial fishing in the summer with my family (parents and two sisters), and keeping busy in the winter with school, sports, and outdoor activities. While I was in high school, I travelled to Germany as an exchange student for 6 months. There, I learned that I loved history, traveling, and enjoying living in new places!
After I graduated from high school my family moved to Kauai, while I decided to try living on the mainland, attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. I completed double majors in marketing and management, with minors in international business and German in 2004. After college, I continued commercial fishing in the summer and spent my winters in Kauai, working at real estate marketing and property management, and adventuring as much as possible with my dog, Cinder.
Then, I was ready for a change and decided I wanted to be a teacher - I have always loved children and felt I was ready to live on the mainland again. I also missed my sister and nephew who lived a few hours south of Seattle - and was about to become an aunt again. So, I decided to move to Seattle, Washington to complete my teacher certification. Living in the city was a new experience, and while I enjoyed city life, I also explored much of Washington State and the west coast, hiking, biking and snowboarding with my boyfriend. After four years in Seattle (two years of school and two years of teaching) we decided to move to Maui. I was hired at Pu'u Kukui in the summer of 2013 to teach kindergarten, and moved to 5th grade the following year. I love teaching at Pu'u Kukui, and have felt very blessed to be a part of our school ohana from the beginning.
In my free time I enjoy reading (mostly history), running, hiking, Outrigger canoeing, snowboarding and spending time with my fiancee and now 12 year old lab, Cinder. My now 7 year old niece and 11 year old nephew currently live in Alaska, so I am a frequent visitor there. Other likes of mine include chocolate, the color purple, and as much beach time as possible.
