S.P.I.N.
Dear Parents/ Families,
This Student-Parent Involvement Notebook (S.P.I.N.) will be a weekly communication tool between you, your child, and myself. It is designed to encourage your child to be responsible (Habit 1: Be Proactive, Habit 3: Put First Things First)) and to reflect on his/her learning. It is also a place for you to give him/her positive strokes through written notes. IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT that you review your child’s S.P.I.N. and Homework Folder daily.
Each day of the week from Monday through Friday, your child will be asked to reflect upon at least two things which he/she has learned in school, and write a paragraph about it in the section which will be referred to as “Reflections.”
The Parent Love Note section is a place for you to write a note to your child at the end of every week. Please take a few minutes at the end of the week to comment positively on his/her accomplishments (e.g. school-related activities, community involvement, sports, etc.). You can also make suggestions and provide “words of wisdom” when he/she is having difficulties or problems. I know that this support will encourage your child to invest more time and effort in school and to work to his/her fullest potential. This support will also show your child that you are interested in his/her learning and will hopefully start conversations at the dinner table about what is happening in school.
The Happy Notes section is a place in the S.P.I.N. where your child can receive “happy notes” from classmates, friends, siblings, teachers/ Pu`u Kukui Elementary staff members, and other members of your family.
I look forward to helping your son/daughter achieve SUCCESS this school year. With each other’s support, I’m sure that we can encourage your child to “reach for the stars” and help him/her discover the JOY OF LEARNING.
Sincerely,
Miss Bartlett
